that account for 70% of total sales. These figures sum up the Italian tile
industry’s world leadership. This leadership is based on tradition and is
reinforced each year thanks to constant technological innovation and continuous
evolution of product types, both in quantitative terms.
Italian tile manufacturers
can be found throughout Italy, but they are especially concentrated in
the "Tile Manufacturing District" in the provinces of Modena
and Reggio Emilia, which account for 80% of total output.
There are smaller manufacturing districts
in the Imola-Faenza district, in Venetia, Umbria, Tuscany and the Salerno
district.
Today, Italian tile manufacturing
has a 20% share of world output and 50% of EU (European Union) output.
Italy accounts for 50% of international trade in ceramic tiles. Italian
tiles are in fact sold and appreciated throughout the world, because they
